/Member Alert: Request for Assistance in Indiana

Your assistance is urgently requested in support of the RMAI Legislative Fund to help our lobbying efforts in Indiana. There is a new court rule that takes effect in 2020 which could be interpreted to require debt buyers to provide point of sale receipts to the courts to substantiate credit card debt in order to obtain a judgment. This form of documentation has never been required by any state in the past and is not maintained by most banks.

We are only in the second week of January and RMAI has already retained state lobbyists in California, Massachusetts, New York, and as of last week Indiana. This is a quick start to the New Year and we expect the need to retain lobbyists in other states will be necessary as the year progresses. Since 2011, RMAI has spent more than $1,500,000 on state lobbyists. On average, RMAI spends 21.95% more during odd years than even years.

Please consider a one-time earmarked contribution to help RMAI’s state lobbying efforts to defend the industry in Indiana and stop a very bad precedent from being established. Any dollar amount is welcomed and would be appreciated. We cannot do it without your support!
