In This Update

RMAI was pleased to see so many of you in Las Vegas this month for our 25th Annual Conference!  Held from February 7-10, we had more than 1,200 attendees. With 20 education sessions, 20 networking events and 92 exhibit booths, there were opportunities for everyone. Join us next year, February 6-9, 2023, at the Aria in Las Vegas, for another successful conference!

Activities on Capitol Hill continue to be focused on major issues including a slimmed-down Build Back Better proposal, voting rights, and confirmation of the administration’s nominations.  With the announced retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer, the Senate will turn their attention to the nomination process of a new Supreme Court Justice.  RMAI, via our federal counsel, remains vigilant in watching for industry-related proposals being slipped into major pieces of legislation.  This spring, RMAI will reinstate Washington DC visits to continue our education of members of Congress, key staff, and federal regulators.

The CFPB has been active with almost weekly announcements tangentially related to the accounts receivables management industry.  These announcements have included the No Surprise Act related to medical bills and the Junk Fees related to various fees charged to consumers by banks such as overdraft fees, NSF fees, etc.   While these items primarily impact the creditors, it is important to note that the CFPB is closely watching activity in these areas.
