Today we celebrate the opening of North Charleston’s new public neighborhood school, Meeting Street Elementary School @ Brentwood (MSEB).MSEB is a groundbreaking new initiative for the Charleston County School District. CCSD has teamed up with my organization, Meeting Street Schools, to form an innovative public/private partnership, the first of its kind in South Carolina.
Working together, we will not only dramatically improve educational outcomes for students in the under-resourced Dorchester Road corridor of North Charleston, but also provide a model for how to do so in similarly challenged schools in the future.
CCSD has entrusted us with the operation of this new public school based upon the success we have attained at our flagship private school, Meeting Street Academy-Charleston (MSA).
As a businessman coming from the private sector, I entered into this endeavor not knowing what to expect, and frankly, with a bit of trepidation. I had heard the horror stories of what has taken place in education circles in other parts of our country: the bitterness, the divisiveness, the inability of grown adults to see beyond their own agendas.
