DEBT BUYER CERTIFICATION AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE
In preparation for the DBA International Annual Conference and Bylaw Amendment vote next week in Las Vegas, DBA wants to ensure that you have all the resources you may need to answer any remaining questions concerning the proposed Debt Buyer Certification Program. Below, please find a summary of resources that you may find helpful:
- The Debt Buyer Certification Program Governance Document is available on the DBA website for your review. Please pay particular attention to Appendix A concerning the 19 certification standards that will be required of certified members. Once the Bylaw amendments that authorize the Certification Program are approved by the membership, DBA debt buying members will have until March 1, 2016 to become certified to remain members of DBA International.
- A recorded webinar that took place in December 2012 providing details of the Debt Buyer Certification Program is available on the DBA website. The webinar runs approximately 90 minutes.
- One of the standards for Debt Buyers is to maintain the position of Chief Compliance Officer. The person who holds this position will need to receive an Individual Debt Buyer Certification that is based on receiving 24 hours of approved education, including a 4 hour Introductory Survey Course – 17 of those 24 credits will be available at the Annual Conference, including the required Introductory Survey Course which will be held on Tuesday morning, February 5, 2012. Make sure your employees are registered if you wish to take early advantage of these credits.
- The ballot to amend the DBA Bylaws required to fully implement the Debt Buyer Certification Program must be returned either (1) electronically prior to Friday, February 1, 2013 at 5:00PM PST or (2) in-person at the Annual Conference prior to Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 3PM PST.
- If the amendments to the DBA Bylaws are approved by the membership, DBA International intends to issue a press release the evening of Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Copies of the press release will be available at the DBA Booth at the Annual Conference and on the DBA website.
- If you have any questions concerning the proposed DBA Certification Program, please email DBA International at [email protected] or approach a DBA staff member at the Annual Conference who will connect you with Jan Stieger, David Reid, or a member of the Certification Task Force who will answer your question.
