In an effort to advance RMAI’s advocacy efforts, Jay Singh was brought into the newly created position of Legislative & Public Relations Specialist.

Jay Singh, Legislative & Public Relations Specialist.

Jay works directly with David Reid, General Counsel & Senior Director of Government Affairs, on things like medical debt, monitoring legislations, and offering ideas on how to advocate to change legislator’s positions on bills on a widescale level in all 50 states.

“It’s exciting to have Jay on the RMAI team,” said David. “Jay has a great personality and will be quite effective in RMAI’s advocacy efforts.”

Jay started at California State University, Sacramento with a focus on pre-med.

After an internship with Senator Richard Pan, Jay switched his focus to Public Health Policy and was hired after graduation.

His focus was on community relations at various district events and acting as a legislative aide for healthcare policy.

While Jay was nervous to switch his focus from pre-med to policy, he knows he made the right decision.

“I had to ask myself; how would I define happiness? For me it is a work/life balance,” said Jay. “What do I find fun that is also work? Public policy. It is something that comes natural to me and makes me happy.”

Jay was happy to come to RMAI after five years at the state senate. He enjoys the smaller team aspect and says he instantly felt comfortable with the RMAI team.

“David really understands what the middle fine line is. What it means to find a way and work out problems,” said Jay. “Eve

One of the things that Jay noticed before coming to RMAI was how natural the atmosphere was. He could see the balance and culture and how everyone on the team spoke so highly of one another. Everyone knew each other’s likes and dislikes and family members’ names.

“Not every workplace has that,” said Jay. “What RMAI has is really special.”

In his free time, Jay enjoys traveling with his wife Manpreet, trying new foods and spending time with family.

“Manpreet really pushes me to grow and challenge myself,” said Jay.

Jay hopes to grow more in his role over the next year and to help develop the position into one that has a greater impact.

“I am just glad to be here,” said Jay. “RMAI is large, but intimate. I am excited to see where we can go.”
