Over the past half-year, Susan Stauts, Administrative Coordinator & Bookkeeper at RMAI, has adeptly managed finances, meticulously tracked numbers, and consistently infused her work with a smile.
While Susan is responsible for bookkeeping, accounts receivables, event registrations, processing certification applications, and administrative tasks, she enjoys the accounts receivables the most.
“I find it fascinating; it is something that just clicked with me,” she said.
After being in a position where she felt stuck with no chance to learn more or advance, Susan found her way to RMAI.
“It just felt right to me,” she said. “I immediately liked how small and tight knit the staff was. I just thought, this is the right place for me.”
Susan originally went to school for elementary education, graduating with a Liberal Studies bachelor’s degree, before realizing she wasn’t passionate about teaching.
She graduated college when her daughter was four months old and decided to take time off to stay at home with her two kids.
When she re-entered the workforce, she started at a call center before moving to timesheets and payroll, eventually finding she enjoyed working at associations.
“I found my love for associations and the members,” said Susan. “I love having the opportunity to develop relationships with members and meet them at events. When you help members with their questions, I appreciate the moment when it clicks and they get all excited, it makes it worthwhile.”
Susan came to RMAI during a peak time of year.
“Susan jumped right in during the busy Annual Conference and Membership renewal season,” said Director of Certification & Education, Shannon Parod. “She has continued to be a great addition to RMAI’s team.”
In her free time, Susan likes to hang out with friends or go to the movies with her 16-year-old and 21-year-old daughters.
Susan hopes that over the next year she can earn her Certified Receivables Compliance Professional (CRCP), learn the new membership database that RMAI is implementing, and establish herself more in her role.
“Although I have only been here six months, it feels like I have been here forever,” she said. “I enjoy being here and I enjoy the people. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
