Coming straight from the Nation’s Capital, RMAI’s new Executive Director Mike Becker carries with him a love of advocacy and a deep appreciation for the value of associations.
After graduating from George Mason University with a degree in Government and International Politics, Mike spent some time working on Capitol Hill before moving over to association work. In 2004, he joined the congressional relations team of the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), an organization representing manufacturers of nonprescription medications. In 2007, Mike went to the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents, where he spent the last 11 years as Executive Vice President & CEO.
“I’ve dedicated my career to advocating for different business interests, ensuring their representation in Washington and state capitals nationwide. I’m excited to continue this important endeavor on behalf of RMAI members, amplifying their voices and advancing their goals,” said Mike.
The search for a new Executive Director came after current Executive Director Jan Stieger announced her retirement after 13 years.
“While Jan’s guidance has been second to none, we are eager to begin this journey with Mike as our new leader,” said Shannon Parod, Director of Certification & Education.
Mike said that he appreciates the importance of the credit ecosystem and is excited to contribute to the efforts of the association.
“I always strive to be a strong, vibrant voice for members,” he said. “It’s a highly rewarding job being able to impact the day-to-day life of members. It is important to work hard to better their lives and their business interests.”
With his extensive background in advocacy work, Mike feels it is crucial to approach policy makers with the intent to bridge the gap between them and the businesses and individuals who run them.
“It is a real opportunity to educate them on the actual elements of the industry and what they represent,” said Mike.
Mike said he is excited to dive right in and connect with RMAI members, with the goal that they find him accessible and resourceful.
“In my role as Executive Director, I hope to collaborate and work with members while serving their interests,” he said. “I am also looking forward to helping strengthen and grow the RMAI Receivables Management Certification Program, as well expand the top-notch networking, event programming, and education opportunities for which RMAI is known.”
Mike spends his free time with his wife and four kids, doing sports and anything outside they can find.
Mike will continue to reside in Washington D.C., making it easier to be close to the action on Capitol Hill.
“I’m thrilled to be joining such a strong, effective team that is committed to the success of its members and the promotion of their essential role in the credit ecosystem,” said Mike.
