RMAI encourages its members to help defeat an attempt to change Arizona’s collection laws through an initiative that would appear on the November ballot. If approved by the voters, the initiative will create the highest wage garnishment exemptions in the nation – effectively banning collections on the first $56,000 of wages.
This is a first in the nation attempt to use a ballot initiative to pass collection-related reforms. This is clearly a test case by industry opponents, in a state that has never been known for its progressive stances. We need everyone’s support in preventing this very dangerous initiative from qualifying for the November ballot. If it is successful in Arizona, consumer advocates will have the blueprint to pass it in the 14 other states that have voter-lead ballot initiatives.
Please support the Arizona Creditor’s Bar who is leading the cross-industry efforts in stopping this initiative. If successful in getting the initiative on the ballot, chance of passage in November is HIGH. Click here for more information on how you can help.
