LOCKPORT, NY – Spire Recovery Solutions was founded by veteran brothers, Joseph Torriere and Jacob Torriere. As a result of their military backgrounds and experiences, their charitable commitments are largely focused on veteran and active Special Operations causes. Through their businesses, the men have donated to multiple veteran-related organizations. Most recently, Spire Recovery Solutions has chosen to financially support All Secure Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by a retired Special Operations combat veteran and his wife. The founding couple has dedicated themselves to assisting active and veteran Special Operations warriors and their families to identify, understand, heal and successfully recover from post-traumatic stress and its symptoms.
The War at Home
When Jen Satterly met her now-husband Command Sgt. Major (ret.) Tom Satterly, she was working as Director of Film and Photography of an elite Special Operations training company and spending time embedded with Navy Seals, Green Berets, and Army Rangers in (RMTs) Realistic Military Training exercises sometimes for weeks at a time. Coming from a non-military background, she was soon struck by the PTS symptoms she was so commonly observing among the soldiers.
Jen took it upon herself to interview the soldiers to better understand the profound social/emotional/mental/biological/spiritual impacts the war experiences were having on them and as a result, their families. As she sought to gain insight, many warriors admitted that more than anything else, they were desperate for help at home. Battle training and trauma, combined with extensive required time away from home, were not always translating well into healthy marriages and families.
Jen and Tom began to date and eventually were married. Through their personal experiences and those they had observed among comrades, it became clear to the couple that the critical education and resources military families needed to address post-traumatic stress were too often lacking in adequacy, abundance, and availability. Soldiers were also struggling to admit and accept the problems due to stigma and lack of outside understanding, even on a professional level. As a result, Jen and Tom turned their professional and personal focus to doing something about it; thus the All Secure Foundation was born.
Camp Homefront
Camp Homefront is All Secure Foundation’s all-inclusive weekend workshop for Special Operations warrior couples. According to ASF, “reconnection begins and tactics are gained for battling the many issues that can surface after combat from disconnection from deployments to untreated war trauma.” The retreats have been so successful that they routinely sell out and the couple has appeared on multiple media outlets to discuss their mission.
Mind + Body Reset
The organization also offers a 6-week Mind + Body Reset. On the journey of the couple’s experience toward healing and reaching out to help others, Jen became a Certified Health Coach. The reset program focuses on increasing and attuning to better health and self-care as part of mental wellness and healing. With Army suicides continuing at astounding rates, the often silent or unspoken needs of soldiers and their families are continuing to scream for more awareness and intervention.
