LANSING, MI – On April 11, 2024, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced several new appointments to the state Board and Commissions including Michigan’s Collection Practices Board to which Velo Law President, Scott Renner, was appointed.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity and am honored to be appointed. It’s exciting to have a chance to serve not just the industry but citizens and businesses in my home state,” said Scott.

According to the announcement released by the Executive Office of the Governor:

“Scott A. Renner, of Grand Rapids, is a licensed collections manager and the president of the Velo Law Office. Renner received a Bachelor of Arts in business from Michigan State University, and a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. Scott A. Renner is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing April 11, 2024, and expiring June 30, 2026. Scott A. Renner succeeds Kirstin Demaio whose term has expired.

The Collection Practices Board works to license and regulate collection agencies operating in Michigan. The board works with the department to oversee the practice of approximately 713 collection agencies and 525 collection agency managers.

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.”

Scott Renner was selected to Rising Stars for 2019 by Super Lawyers and served two terms as President of the Michigan Association of Collection Agencies from 2015-2016 and 2022-2024, a unit of ACA International. Scott has appeared on the industry podcast, Receivables Roundtable (episode 143, “Intersection of Technology and Collections Law”). He is a Certified Receivables Compliance Professional with Receivables Management Association International.
