RMAI’s Receivables Management Certification Program offers professional designations to businesses and individuals operating and employed within the receivables industry. RMAI launched the Certification Program in 2013 with a stated mission to “provide enhanced consumer protections through rigorous and uniform industry standards of best practice.” As described in the following Q&A, certified businesses enjoy benefits including increased business opportunities and decreased consumer complaints and litigation.

How long have you been a member of RMAI, and why did you decide to get certified?

Cuevas Jones, LLC has been a member of RMAI since May, 2022. After attending the 2022 annual conference and speaking with other industry peers, the value my company could gain as a certified member of RMAI through education and networking was very clear.

What type of certification did you obtain? Certified Receivables Business certification obtained July, 2023.

What was the easiest part of the certification process? RMAI clearly provided a list of everything that would be required upfront. I really like that because it made it easy for me to identify what I needed to provide for consideration without any surprises or guessing.

How long did it take to complete your certification?

I believe the process took me about three months from initial application submission to final approval. However, from the time that I submitted everything required to gaining certification approval, that took approximately one month.

What was the most difficult part of the certification process? Why?

The process was fairly straightforward. If you have ever completed a RTP, you will find that the RMAI certification process, while rigorous, is very well organized. You always have representative following up with you or someone you can reach out to to ask questions.

What helpful resources did you find to navigate those challenges?

RMAI has undoubtedly been my go to resource for professional recommendations. Once I learned that I did not have the proper cyber insurance, a quick call or email to RMAI, and I was given a solid and reputable insurance recommendation.

If there was one thing you could change about the certification process, what would it be?

I honestly have no complaints regarding the certification process.

What unexpected benefit/value did you find after completing certification?

Since becoming certified, I have been able to gain a new client who contacted me because my business is RMAI certified.

What advice can you share with other businesses considering certification?

Do it without hesitation! Between the educational value and networking possibilities, it will only add value to your business. What your business will gain for such a nominal fee is worth it.

What opportunities did you find to improve your business processes through becoming certified?

I found that I needed to have someone other than myself specifically assigned to making sure my policies are being updated in real time versus only looking at them quarterly and then again annually.

Why would you recommend certification to your peers?

I would recommend RMAI certification to my peers because I have built client relationships that I would have never had if I was not certified.
